The US Basketball Writers Association-of which I am not a member-voted Oliver Purnell as the Coach of the year for District III, covering VA-MD-NC-SC. Trevor Booker was named to the All-District III Team.
The Greenville News, or at least someone there, doesn't even know how to spell Oliver Purnell's name.
I should expect more from a flagship news organization in the upstate. But, is this subtly indicative of how people really feel about Clemson Basketball or just a headline mistake?
While OP represents district III, here are the other coaches and their respective districts:
I: ME, VT, NH, RI, MA, CT
Jim Calhoun, UCONN
II: NY, NJ, DE, DC, PA, WV
Jamie Dixon, Pitt
III: VA, NC, SC, MD
Oliver Purnell, Clemson
IV:KY, TN MS, AL, GA, FL
John Calipari, Memphis
V: OH, IN, IL, MI, MN, WI
Brad Stevens, Butler
VI: IA, MO, KS, OK, NE, ND, SD
Bill Self, Kansas
VII: TX, AR, LA
Trent Johnson, LSU
VIII: WY, UT, ID, NM, CO, NV, MT
Stew Morrill, Utah State
IX: CA, OR, WA, HI, AZ, AK
Craig Robinson, Oregon State
Not bad Company.
Go Tigers!
